Acclimation of Virginia's Foreign-Born Population
Highlighting JLARC's study of State services for immigrants in Virginia.
Background
House Joint Resolution 604 of the 2003 General Assembly directed the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) to study the acclimation of the Commonwealth's ethnically diverse population. This featured page provides the results of the JLARC staff study, including a report issued in November 2003, two staff briefings to JLARC (November 10, 2003 and July 12, 2004), a listing of some initiatives employed by other states and localities to assist immigrants, and a series of maps that display data relevant to Virginia's foreign-born population.

Maps Overview
The maps available below display the distribution of foreign-born residents of Virginia by census tract. Six map types are available for the State and selected local jurisdictions. Some cities are shown separately as well as with the surrounding county. Local maps are available only if at least one census tract in the jurisdiction was in the top 25 percent of census tracts statewide for the relevant variable (such as the percent of population who are foreign born). All of the maps are in PDF format. All 257 maps are available in a single PDF document (27.4 MB): Maps Document.
